The Doublehappiness Project

the doublehappiness project

photographs by Holger Thoss

Photographing a wedding is a thrilling challenge to make great images.  I want to stay true to the genuine moments, avoiding the clichés and the safe, formulaic images.  I want to tell an emotional story without referring to the expected.

His images thrive on movement, people jostling in close proximity to one another. They represent an extended moment – celebrate it.

Holger came to New York City in 1988 to learn and work with photographers he admired.  He studied at ICP, interned at the Aperture Foundation and became the head printer for Magnum Photos, NY.

In the mid 90s he started sharing a studio with Philippe Cheng and John Dolan working full time as a photographer.  Most of his work consisted of collaborations with design firms and magazine assignments.  Now, he focuses on personal and commissioned fine art work.
